KONA Worlds in La Ciotat -

KONA Worlds

The KONA Worlds 2007 tool place in La Ciotat in southern France in September.  There were 45 participants and many of those had merits from high levels of Raceboard and old longboard competitions (as far back as the eightees).

The results:
1 DAVID Franck     France    (Gold Medallist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games)
2 POLLAK Patrik    Slovakia (2006 Raceboard World Champion)
3 PIEGELIN Hervé    France
4 ALMQUIST Rikard    Sweden (3:rd Div2 worlds 1985)
5 SONCK Koen    Belgium    (Belgium FW champion)
6 BELBEOC'H Patrice    France    (PWA World Wave Champion)
7 NIESSEN Lie Hakon    Norway
8 ASIA Jean    France
9 HOLM Bjorn    Sweden  (3:rd in Windsurfer worlds 1984)

KONA is a nice class in that it gathers lots of hobbý surfers, lots of "not anymore that ambitious old champions", as well as current champions. The moderate sail size and the no pumping rule puts emphasis on sailing skills rather than on top physics.
